What’s Happening in September

“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.”
~ Nathaniel Hawthorne ~

Summer is on its way out with fall quick on its heels. And with the dismissal of the scorching heat, we extend a hearty welcome to racing season. Fall in the desert is peppered with marathons, triathlons, mud and terrain races, and outdoor recreation. There’s something for everyone. We all want to get outside after being cooped up in the AC all summer long. CrossFit is an exceptional way to keep one’s fitness levels in optimal condition. We do the hard things in the gym so that we can do the fun things outdoors. Whether you’re running 20+ miles, biking the countryside, hiking a remote trail, trying out for the basketball team, keeping up with your kids and grandkids, or hunting down the perfect sunset, we have a fitness plan that will work for you.

September marks the end of our Wendler strength building cycle. Amazing work on those PRs, folks! We focused our cycle on the deadlift, back squat, and shoulder press – all lifts necessary to improve your cleans, jerks, and snatches. This month we will be taking advantage of our increased strength and power to focus on the harder technical lifts – cleans, snatches, and presses. In addition to lifts, it’s time to hone back in on our monostructural movements – running, rowing, biking and skiing. If you were considering signing up for that 5k or investing in that season lift pass now’s the time! We’ll get you ready.

On the nutrition front, let’s talk body types and differences that contribute to your success. Not all bodies are the same. From differences in structure to differences in hormones and metabolism, there’s so much that goes into an individual’s fitness and nutrition. Knowing your specific body type and how to fuel it properly is key to your fitness progression.  Fitness experts have noted that in the top tiers of athletes – male and female – there is only about a 10% variance in  capacity compared to untrained individuals where the disparity is closer to 50%. That’s huge! And it all boils down to knowing yourself, pushing yourself, and caring for yourself. The late philosopher Dallas Willard stated that one cannot properly care for what one does not know or understand. Want to get better? Get to know and understand yourself. Have questions on your specific nutrition? Contact Coach Deb or stop by our Saturday morning nutrition hour at 10am and ask questions or get tips on what may work for you.

Let’s hit the ground running this Fall!
